What is Risperidone?
Risperdal – Risperidone is a prescription drug. It comes in an oral tablet, an orally disintegrating tablet, and an oral solution. It is also given as an injection, which is only assumed by healthcare professional.
Risperidone oral tablet is available as the brand name Risperdal. It is also available in generic form. Generics usually cost less than branded versions. In some cases, the branded-name drug and the generic drug may be available in different methods and doses.
How Does Risperdal Work?
Risperidone belongs to a class of medications called atypical antipsychotics. A drug class is a group of drugs that act similarly. These medicines are frequently used to treat similar conditions.
Risperidone affects the number of certain chemicals called neurotransmitters that occur naturally in the brain. People with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and autism are thought to have imbalances in certain neurotransmitters. This drug can improve this imbalance.
Risperidone is used to treat certain psychiatric / mood disorders (such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, irritability associated with autistic disorder). This medication will help you think clearly and take part in daily life. Risperidone belongs to a class of medicines called atypical antipsychotics. It works by helping to restore the stability of certain natural substances in the brain.
How should I use Risperdal?
Take these medicine with or without food as directed by the doctor, usually twice a day. If you remain using the liquid form of this drug, carefully measure the dose using the unique measuring device included in the kit. Do not use a household spoon as you may get the wrong dose. If indicated, can mix the metered dose with a small amount of liquid (3 to 4 ounces / approximately 100 millilitres) such as water, coffee, orange juice, or skim milk. Do not mix with tea or cola. Take the whole mixture now. If you have any queries, enquire with your pharmacist.
The dosage depends on your age, response to treatment, health condition, and other medicines you may be taking. Be sure to tell your pharmacist and doctor about all products you use (including prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, and herbal products). Side Effects
Sleepiness lightheadedness, lightheadedness, drooling, nausea, weight gain, or fatigue may happen. If any of these things worsen or persist, communicate with your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
Dizziness and vertigo can increase the risk of falls. When you get up from a sitting or lying position, get up slowly.

This drug can increase the production of a specific natural substance (prolactin) in the body. Precautions Before taking Risperdal
Risperidone can cause an irregular heartbeat (prolonged QT interval). Long QT interval may rarely cause severe (rarely fatal) rapid/uneven heartbeat and other symptoms (such as severe dizziness, fainting) that require instant medical attention.
This drug can make you dizzy or drowsy. Alcohol or marijuana (cannabis) can cause dizziness or drowsiness. Do not drive, function machinery, or do anything that requires vigilance until you can do so safely. Avoid alcoholic beverages. Speak to your doctor if you use marijuana (cannabis).
During pregnancy, this drug should only be used if necessary. Babies born to moms who have taken this medicine during the last 3 months of their pregnancy may rarely grow symptoms, including muscle stiffness or shaking, sleepiness, difficulty feeding/breathing, or constant crying. If you see any of these indications in your newborn, especially during the first month of life, tell your doctor right away.
The drug goes into breast milk and can have unwanted effects on a nursing baby. Tell your doctor right away if your baby develops symptoms such as muscle stiffness, tremors, unusual sleepiness, or difficulty feeding. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
Consequences of an overdose with Risperdal
If someone has an overdose and has severe symptoms such as fainting or shortness of breath, call your local poison control centre. Residents can call the provincial poison control centre. Overdose symptoms may include severe drowsiness/dizziness, fast/irregular heartbeat, unusual/uncontrolled movements, seizures. Do not pass this drug on to other people.
Should do laboratory medical tests (such as blood sugar, weight, blood pressure, cholesterol/triglyceride levels in the blood) periodically to monitor progress or check for side effects. See your doctor for more details.
